BAFTA Connects Stars Of The Future With Britain’s Success Stories

It’s been a busy International Women’s Day, with people the world over coming forward to celebrate women. But it is also a day to address injustice and inequality, to plan how best to raise women up ever further and support them in their goals. BAFTA is among them, today announcing an initiative – BAFTA Connects – that seeks to pair up those with aspirations in film, television and games with those who have become leaders in their fields. Those chosen will come face to face with the talent behind Killing Eve, Sex Education and the James Bond franchise.

The list is a whose who of big names in the industry. Aisling Bea – star of Living With Yourself – tops the bill, alongside Sex Education screenwriter Laurie Nunn, Killing Eve costume designer Phoebe De Gaye, actress Pippa Bennett-Warner and Barbara Broccoli, who – among other things – stands at the helm of the James Bond films. Others include costume designer Sandy Powell, composer Nainita Desai, producer Elizabeth Karlsen and director Delyth Thomas.

The scheme matches up the women, enabling the entrants to gain wisdom and insights in their challenging rise to the top of their industries.

‘We’re delighted to be facilitating these connections between brilliant women with amazing careers and aspiring women from across the UK who are looking to build a career within film, games or television’, says Amanda Berry, OBE, Chief Executive of BAFTA. ‘BAFTA works year-round to support emerging talent from all backgrounds, and I can’t wait to see the wonderful pairings and inspiring conversations that come out of this opportunity.’
