Juneteenth event highlights contributions of Black women

A Juneteenth event will bring together individuals featured in the North Speaker Series to spotlight the contributions of Black women in Danville.

The River District Association will host the True North Speaker Series Celebration from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Thee Arc Family Life Center.

It will showcase businesses and organizations either led or driven by Black woman, Lashawn Farmer, the director of expansion and design for the association, told the Register & Bee.

Tables will be set up at 4 p.m. featuring vendors and displays. Then from 6 to 7 p.m., a speaker panel will feature “the remarkable ladies we’ve interviewed throughout the series,” she said.

The series that’ll soon begin his second season is an initiative from the River District Association to put the often overlooked Black women — the ones who work behind the scenes — into a spotlight for the community.
