Livelihood Enhancing Skill Development Training for Rural Women of Rajkot District, Gujarat Organized by ICAR-NAARM

ICAR – National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organized five-day skill development training programme on “Eco-Friendly Bags making for Economic Empowerment of Rural Women” under SCSP in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pipalia, Rajkot Gujarat for SC women at Dhoraji during 3rd – 7th October, 2022.
Dr.Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, in his valedictory address briefed about the harmful effects of plastic usage and environmental pollution. Dr. Rao emphasized the importance and necessity of using eco-friendly bags as a viable alternative to plastic bags. He urged the participants to utilize the skill-training programme to increase their income. He exhorted the participants to form into groups and start their own business of Eco friendly bag making for the sustainable development of their livelihood.
Dr H C Chhodvadia. ADEE. JAU Junagadh, emphasized upon the importance and benefits of using eco-friendly bags over plastic bags.
Earlier, Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist & Chairman, Sub-Plan Committee, ICAR-NAARM, during his inaugural speech briefed the beneficiaries about SC Subplan programme and its implementation.
In the valedictory program, the various bags designed and stitched by the participants during five-day training were exhibited and the input materials for bag making were distributed to the participants.
In this training, 50 rural women from different villages of Dhoraji taluka such as Bholgamda, Supedi, Moti-parabdi, Pipalia, & Dhoraji were actively participated.
Most of the women participants were daily wagers and hence it was necessary to empower them through skill development.
The participants were trained on the various aspects of bag stitching using materials such as jute and cloth, as well as a business plan for starting a bag-making enterprise.
During the programme, the participants acquired technical training in the stitching and designing of 15 different types and sizes of bags.
