Member FAQs

What type of membership do I need?

USA Water Polo offers multiple annual memberships. For a list and breakdown of each membership type click here. Memberships are on a rolling member basis, and expire 365 days from the day of purchase. Except, new and lapsed member registrations purchased before the old membership has expired. The new membership will be valid immediately after the old membership expires. Members who renew their memberships between November 1 and December 31, will be guaranteed current year pricing and the new membership will take effect on January 1, or at the end of their current membership. There is a $5 processing fee to register by mail or email (click here for forms). There is no added $5 fee to register online.

When can I change my current club affiliation?

Current members may change their club affiliation within the open transfer periods. All eligible athletes are unable to change their club after the club affiliation deadlines set forth in the Club Affiliation Policy. All current athletes (silver, gold,) are able to participate in club practices and sanctioned events, regardless of affiliation, unless otherwise stated in the rules for a particular event like Junior Olympics.

How do I change my current club affiliation?

To change your club affiliation (within the rules stated in the Club Affiliation Policy), you must first login to your member account. Click “View Profile” or the profile box on the right hand side of the screen, then once you are in the member’s profile click the “memberships” tab, scroll down the new page and select “next”, choose your new club, click “save” or “next” until all pages are completed. Only active and current clubs will be listed in the drop-down menu. Click Here for a visual guide

How can I find a club to join or find the club I am currently playing with>?

The online club search allows you to search by club name and/or zip code

What is my member ID or username?

Your membership ID number IS NOT your account username anymore. To log into your account, use your primary email. If you do not know your primary email or would like to update your email, then please reach out to memberships@usawaterpolo.org

How can I retrieve my password?

How can I upgrade my membership?

If you need to upgrade your membership, you can login to your account and click on the “Change Your Membership” tab. This will allow you to upgrade by paying the difference in cost plus an $8 upgrade fee. Note that you can only upgrade a membership that is current. Therefore if a membership has lapsed, it in ineligible for upgrade. A visual guide is attached HERE.

Does a coach or referee need an athlete membership if they are participating as an athlete?

Any currently registered coach or referee member receives full gold athlete playing rights. They can participate as a gold athlete, without a separate USAWP athlete membership. However, THEY MUST be at a “current” status in order to coach/referee/play. Each member should have only ONE membership.

How can I cancel my membership?

USA Water Polo memberships are non-refundable and non-transferrable – you may cancel your membership, but we will not issue any refunds.

Do I receive an insurance package with USAWP membership?

One of the benefits of becoming a USA Water Polo member is that you are covered by our insurance. Click Here for more information on the specific insurance coverage for members.

Why is my membership listed as action required?

Your membership may be listed as “action required” if you have purchased a membership that has required tasks that need to be completed. For example, if you are 18 years or older with an athlete membership type (bronze, silver, gold) then you will need to complete your Safesort Training. If you are a referee, then you are required to complete your Online Referee Exam, Background Screening, and Safesport Training. If you are a coach then you will be required to complete your CPR/First Aid Certification, Background Screening, and Safesport Training. When does my club affiliation lock?

Club affiliation will lock 7 days prior to the zone qualifying tournament. For zones or divisions that do not have a qualifier, another date will be set for those athletes based on the rules set forth in USA Water Polo’s Conduct of Championships. Please view the deadline calendar

How do I change my name in the database?

We do not allow for name changes in our system, however sometimes mistakes are made during registration, legal name changes occur, etc. In these situations, please email membership@usawaterpolo.org to make the change.
