Women’s Hockey Caps Off Mental Health Awareness Weekend with OT Victory

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood women’s hockey team (3-7-2) defeated St. Cloud State (4-9-1) 2-1 in an overtime-thriller on Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.  The women’s hockey program held a ceremonial puck drop prior to the game as members of the Lindenwood community spoke about the importance of mental health awareness.
 
Lindenwood started off fast and four results as Jordyn Pimm got to the front of the net and was credited with the first goal of the game.  The goal to put the Lions up 1-0 was the first of her career.  Jolene deBruyn was the most important factor for the Lions as stood on her head to help maintain the lead.  St. Cloud State kept pressing and eventually scored the game-tying goal at the 17:53 mark of the third period.
 
For the second-straight night the physicality picked up near the end of the contest, and the game again went to overtime.  With the crowd already on their feet, Kirsten Martin score her first goal of the game and the crowd erupted as the team spilled over the boards.  The Lions defeated the Huskies 2-1 for their second win over St. Cloud State in the series history.

UP NEXT
The Lions (3-7-2) will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. to take on Minnesota Whitecaps in a two-game series.
